Lecture Overview

Cohort studies involving community-dwelling populations have greatly contributed to elucidating the etiology (risk factors) and pathophysiology of hypertension and cardiovascular diseases. Genome-wide analyses conducted worldwide have identified numerous genes associated with essential hypertension, advancing our understanding of the disease’s underlying mechanisms.

Our research focuses on proteomic analyses using peripheral blood to investigate molecules related to hypertension. In clinical-oriented studies, home nocturnal blood pressure has recently attracted attention, and progress is being made in identifying risk factors that elevate nighttime blood pressure.

In this lecture, we will provide an overview of the current knowledge on hypertension derived from cohort studies, including findings from our own research.
