Controlling and Reversing Age-Related Cardiovascular Diseases
Heart failure, arteriosclerosis, and other age-related cardiovascular diseases pose a major threat to healthy longevity. If we can control the aging of the heart and blood vessels, the possibilities for prevention and treatment will expand significantly.
Dr. Ippei Shimizu, Director of the Department of Cardiovascular Aging at the National Cerebral and Cardiovascular Center, continues to investigate the molecular mechanisms behind vascular and myocardial aging, aiming to develop novel therapeutic approaches. In this session, he will share the latest research findings and discuss future prospects for clinical application in an accessible and engaging manner.

Dr. Ippei Shimizu
Director, Department of Cardiovascular Aging, National Cerebral and Cardiovascular Center
Born in Tokyo in 1976, Dr. Shimizu graduated from Chiba University School of Medicine and earned his Ph.D. from the Graduate School of Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the same university. After conducting cardiovascular aging research at Boston University School of Medicine, he returned to Japan and served as Associate Professor at both Niigata University Graduate School and Juntendo University School of Medicine. His research focuses on elucidating the molecular mechanisms of cardiovascular aging and developing innovative treatments. Currently, he leads efforts to establish aging-based therapies for heart failure as Director of the Department of Cardiovascular Aging at the National Cerebral and Cardiovascular Center.
Awards: Catalyst Award (National Academy of Medicine, 2020), Sato Award (Japan Heart Foundation, 2023), and numerous others.
